Stephan Spiekman
Stephan is a vertebrate palaeontologist focusing on the evolutionary radiation of reptiles during the Triassic and major morphological innovations, such as the origin of complex skin appendages in reptiles and the formation of the turtle shell.
He studied Biology at Leiden University and Naturalis Biodiversity Center in his native Netherlands and at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, followed by a PhD at the University of Zurich on the phylogeny and palaeobiology of “Protorosauria”, with a focus on the genus Tanystropheus. This was followed by postdocs at The Natural History Museum in London and the Stuttgart State Museum for Natural History.
